The Surge in Anti-Asian Violence: Corporate Social Responsibility and Action

CLE Credit Information

Thank you for attending our program on April 9, 2021. The information below detail how to receive CLE credit. You must have pre-registered for this event and attended the live program in order to receive credit in New York. If after reviewing the following, you need assistance, please write to us at [email protected] .

To receive credit, you must complete the attorney attestation on the first page of the written materials at https://aabany.org/aavcle and complete the online evaluation at https://aabany.org/aaveval . The online evaluation is where you will indicate your bar memberships and bar numbers. Please complete the attorney attestation and online evaluation even if you are not licensed in New York, as it will be the basis for receiving credit with other states.

Upon competition of the above, we will issue a New York certificate, and forward your information to our partner bars if you are requesting credit from their jurisdiction. The partner bars will be issuing credit certificates to you directly.

New York
The Asian American Bar Association of New York is certified by the New York State Continuing Legal Education Board as an Accredited Provider. This program has been approved in accordance with the requirements of the CLE Board for a maximum of 1.5 credit hours, in which 1.5 credit hours will be applied toward the Diversity, Inclusion, and Elimination of Bias requirement. Only non-transitional New York attorneys will receive credit for this program.

New York CLE credits are accepted on a reciprocal basis by Alaska, California[^], Colorado[^], Connecticut [1], Florida, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey [2], North Dakota, and Ontario, Canada[^]. Additional filing to your home state may be required.

[1] Under Connecticut Practice Book §2-27A(b) and §2-27A(c)(6), New York-approved credits are accepted by Connecticut.

[2] Under New Jersey BCLE Rule 201:4, no additional filing is required – you may use the New York certificate toward your requirements. New Jersey awards double credit for presenters, rather than triple credit in New York.

[^] While reciprocity is possible using the New York certificate, we will forward your application to our partner bar who will issue a certificate directly from that jurisdiction.

CLE credits have been approved in CA (APABA LA),  CO (ACC Colorado), and OH (Asian American Bar Association of New York).

CPE credits have been approved in British Columbia (FACL BC) and Ontario (FACL ON).

CLE credits have been applied for in FL, HI, IL, MO, MN, PA, TN and TX. We will update this space when we have further information on credit approval.

Self study: For all others seeking CLE credit in other jurisdictions, AABANY will provide a New York Certificate of Attendance which might be used by individuals to seek credit in other jurisdictions. AABANY will assist you in your application – please contact us at [email protected] . Please check with your state’s CLE accrediting body to ascertain whether you can earn CLE credit for attending this program.

Below are the supporting materials for this program if you are applying for self-study.

Program Description

2020 saw a surge in anti-Asian violence. The AABANY and Paul, Weiss report, “A Rising Tide of Hate and Violence Against Asian Americans in New York During COVID-19: Impact, Causes, Solutions” has been garnering widespread attention and acclaim. For a growing number of corporate employers, there is a keen desire to DO something. But what? What can or should corporate employers be doing to help stem and address anti-Asian violence and hate crimes? What could they be doing to support their Asian American and Pacific Islander employees? What do they need to understand about the difficulties of hate crimes prosecutions and the tensions between the valid concerns of those desiring aggressive prosecution, those who worry about further contributing to the prosecutions of people from other minority communities, and those who advocate for restorative justice? Please join AABANY and a coalition of bar associations for a discussion with corporate in-house leaders about corporate social responsibility and anti-Asian violence.
